Born into Section 8 housing, Cane Murphy was the typical impoverished child surrounded by crack, drug dealers and street corner rappers. At a young age he was beatboxing and sparking freestyle cyphers. His artistic passion also garnered him a reputation as a unique and highly skilled graffiti artist. A skill which landed him on the wanted list by New York’s Graffiti Task Force.

After delivering over 200 performances in New York’s Underground, Murphy joined Grammy Award winning Recording Artist and Guitarist Vernon Reid and DJ Logic on a nationwide tour. He has created several mix tapes and has been featured on numerous albums including Rock Star Blends and Coast2Coast Mixtape 81 by DJ Vlad. Cane Murphy has also enjoyed mention in several of the industry’s top magazines, including XXL Magazine, Rap Fanatic Magazine, Juniors Cave and Lyrics Inc Magazine. He was also invited to perform at the first ever Bronx Fest.

Cane’s rise to through the underground scene in Harlem caught the attention of an A&R from Def Jam and Universal Music Group. His break into mainstream was just weeks away when he suffered a spine crushing injury which left him with plates in his back after reconstructive spine surgery. The combination of severe pain and debilitating narcotics stifled Murphy’s attempt to finish his debut album under his own label, but now, just over a month from release, the album and the name Cane Murphy is once again beginning to generating buzz.

This research shows that the possible future first Mr. First Man won’t be a trend setter, but is equally participating in parenting his children – a new and somewhat refreshing trend in the roles men are taking on in the home.
